STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE

In 1992, the U.S. Catholic Bishops, in A Pastoral Letter on Stewardship, asked all Catholics to embrace the definition of STEWARDSHIP as “one who chooses to become a disciple of Jesus Christ”. The Bishops further defined discipleship as “the call to follow Jesus and imitate his way of life”.

To follow Jesus and imitate his way of life is to receive God’s gifts gratefully, be responsible in caring for them and using them and sharing them generously. We must learn to change our language from “I” to “we” or “they” and to not be afraid to live a life using Jesus Christ as our example.

To live a life of STEWARDSHIP is to accept the Lord’s call freely. Just as Jesus was mocked, we also sometimes are mocked when we do the right thing and refuse to go along with the crowd. But if we trust wholeheartedly in God and show pride in the blessings we have been given as followers of Christ, we will find that others will want what we have – the unconditional love of God.

Living a life of STEWARDSHIP means practicing hospitality and serving others – working for the glory of God. We are committed to God’s Word. We celebrate our Faith through the Sacraments and we collaborate with God in protecting all of his creation. If we are sincere in our beliefs and our Faith, then we trust in the providence of God. Trusting in God’s providence allows us to give freely to others and to surrender to the power of God’s grace.

Each of us belongs to God and reflects His image and likeness. We exist on this Earth to say “yes” to God in our daily actions and to live the Gospel, not just in church, but in the “real World”. As stewards, we seek God through prayer and by offering all that we have and all that we are to God. When we follow Christ’s example, we find the joy in living that Christ did.

As disciples of Christ, we are asked to model lives of justice and charity by growing the gifts received from God and giving back with increase. We are asked to live our Faith; participate in the Sacraments and serve others, wherever we find ourselves. Most of all, we are asked to live in joy – the joy in knowing that each act of kindness, each blessing shared, each prayer whispered and each example of Christ demonstrated brings us closer to eternal life.

Corpus Christi Church is a STEWARDSHIP parish. Formation, Hospitality, Prayer and Service are all alive in our parish community. Join us on our journey to make STEWARDSHIP more visible in everything we do.
